FAQs

  • GUAC events are organized by a few volunteers with a shared love of Ultimate. We are not a school, not a club, not a team, not a league. We recognize that girls have less opportunities to play and so we have come together to try to provide and promote more Girls Ultimate happenings. We do not represent any particular organization, but we are all connected to many different teams, schools ,and orgs. Think of us as like a communication hub just here to pass on information and connect people.

  • We host a variety of events: social pick-up games, throwing clinics, hat tournaments, fitness clinics, etc. We will be happy to promote almost any community event that provides girls more opportunities to play Ultimate. Please reach out if you have an idea, or if you know of another event already happening: we would love to help spread the word!

  • YES… Girls Youth Ultimate NEEDS beginners to GROW! First things first: try not to be too nervous, this sport is super chill. Ultimate culture is friendly, respectful, and laid back. Also, ATL doesn’t have elementary leagues, so it is not like other sports where people started when they were little kids: the majority of middle and high school players are totally new. Just give it a shot!

    • Each event description will tell you if it is geared more towards experienced players or newer players, or both.

    • Each event description will detail which grade levels are invited, it does not matter what school you attend.

    • Come from near or far, it does not matter where you live.

    • GUAC follows the USAU guidelines regarding who is eligible for the Girls division: “Within our divisions as they currently exist, USA Ultimate will not discriminate on the basis of gender identity, regardless of sex assigned at birth, or any other form of gender expression for participation in any division. We affirm that people of all gender identities should have the freedom to participate in USA Ultimate sanctioned or championship series events in the division in which they feel most comfortable and safe based on their gender identity and should be recognized, respected and included at every level of the sport.”

  • Whatever is comfortable to run in. Soccer or football cleats are typical, but sneakers are just fine. Bring a light and a dark shirt, a waterbottle or two, and you are good to go.

  • Then you are normal, and we will teach you the lovely flight of this amazing plastic disc. It takes repetition before it eventually feels comfortable. Don’t worry, you will get the hang of it! Even if you cannot throw and catch very well yet, you can still just run around on defense and have a great time out there!

  • It doesn’t have to be… there are free pick up games all over the city. As you progress in the sport, you will eventually need to buy cleats ($50-$200) and you may want to join a team or league ($50-$300). Once you get addicted to the beautiful game, you may find yourself wanting to fly around the globe to play. We are sorry and you are welcome!

  • Spirit of the Game (S.O.G.) is Ultimate’s set of Rules, and also what creates the culture of “joy of play” and “mutual respect.” There are no referees, so players self-officiate and are bound by a code of honesty and the assumption of best intentions. Even in the most competitive games, opponents can use SOG to work out call disputes respectfully. It is really quite impressive…. the SOG makes this like no other sport on the planet.

  • Everything. Different Sports. All Fun.
